Ethnographic Room

Ethnographic collection of the Val Sanagra Museum

A journey into the life and crafts of the Sanagra Valley

The Ethnographic Room of the Val Sanagra Museum is a space dedicated to the historical memory and daily life of rural communities in this valley. Here you can immerse yourself in the past, discovering tools and implements that have accompanied work in the fields, forests, stables and craft stores for centuries.

The room brings together a wide selection of original objects, divided into four thematic areas: Transportation, Tools, Tools e Handicrafts.

Each piece on display tells a story of toil and ingenuity, passing on the knowledge and habits of those who lived in harmony with nature and the rhythm of the seasons.

From sturdy horse harnesses to weather-carved hoes, from lumberjacks' saws to tools used to carve wood or work with iron, each object bears witness to a time when manual labor and craftsmanship were the basis of daily life.

This collection, the result of generous donations from the local community, represents a valuable heritage to be discovered and enhanced.

What to see

Topic Sections

The exhibition area is divided into four thematic sections:

Transportation

In this section we find the ancient means of transportation used for work and daily life, including the traditional "carretta" wagon, the cariola-sled and the gerla. A unique piece is the registered wagon with license plate, a witness to a time when each vehicle had its own identity.

Tools

An extensive collection of tools related to the valley's major trades: accessories for barn animals, tools of the farmer, woodsman, and haymaker. Each object, from horseshoes to scythes for harvesting hay, tells the story of the hard work of rural life.

Tools

Machinery and tools dedicated to the processing of fodder, grains, milk, wine and wool can be found here. Ancient machines for separating grain, the hemp press, and tools for making cheese and butter can be seen.

Handicrafts

A tribute to traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, carpentry and cobbling, with reconstructions of their workstations.

We also find a corner dedicated to Two bell tower clocks still in working order. The clocks, dating back to the mid-nineteenth century, are activated by blocks of rock that move the gears by harnessing the energy produced by gravity. These historic pieces have been replaced by electric machines, avoiding the strenuous daily work of winding.
