On September 25, 2011, the municipality of Grandola ed Uniti established a new entity that directly involves the Val Sanagra area: the Val Sanagra Ecomuseum. This project was created to celebrate and preserve the archaeological, industrial and natural riches of the area.
The Sanagra Valley hosts artifacts of industrial archaeology which testify to the ancient processing of rare materials, uncommon in a single territory. Prominent among these are clay, lime, and charcoal fossils.
A symbol of this legacy is the Galli Furnace, recently restored, which is the beating heart of the Ecomuseum.
In addition, the area is enriched by a natural environment of great value, with species of flora e fauna Of naturalistic interest.
A notable example is the Rogolone, one of Italy's 150 monumental trees.
The logo of the Sanagra Valley Ecomuseum reflects the valley heritage: a water wheel reminiscent of the historical exploitation of the waters of Sanagra Creek for processing geological materials.
In the center of the wheel, a oak leaf symbolizes the environmental and naturalistic value of the region.
The Sanagra Valley is a real outdoor display: its roads and paths serve as pavement, the landscape is a showcase, and the monuments represent the exhibits.
The Ecomuseum is not a static structure, but a dynamic project which depends on the active participation of the people and the enhancement of local traditions, including customs, traditions and dialect.
On April 15, 2014, the Lombardy Region officially recognized the Val Sanagra Ecomuseum, following the application for recognition submitted on October 25, 2013.
