Val Sanagra Park is located in a beautiful valley that wedges into the heart of the Lepontine Pre-Alps, between Lake Como and Lake Lugano.
It is named after the stream of the same name, which flows from the slopes of the Tabor, Marnotto and Bregagno mountains to the mouth of Menaggio.

The Val Sanagra Local Park of Supra-municipal Interest (PLIS) was established in 2005 through the initiative of the municipalities of Grandola ed Uniti and Menaggio, with the aim of enhancing and protecting an area of extraordinary natural, historical and landscape value.
The result of a shared vision, the PLIS is based on a model of participatory protection, which does not impose rigid constraints, but recognizes and promotes the importance of traditional activities and the age-old relationship between man and the valley.
This approach avoids the outdated idea of a closed and "inaccessible" park, where nature is separated from everyday life. On the contrary, the Sanagra Valley PLIS is proposed as a model of harmonious coexistence between humans and the environment, capable of conserving the landscape through the direct involvement of those who have lived in and cared for it for generations.

The Park Management Committee is responsible for trail restoration and maintenance, ensuring that hikers and visitors can explore the valley more easily and safely.
The first concrete step was the creation of a "Trail Map," an essential tool for taking stock of the situation and orienting intervention activities. This work made it possible to highlight the strategic role of the Sanagra Valley, which is crossed by as many as three of the main hiking routes of the western Lario:
In the Sanagra Valley it connects Cardano to Breglia, passing by the Chioderia Mill. It is marked by flag symbol No. 3, with red, white and red colors.
It starts from Breglia, crosses Alpe Varò, descends to Spin locality and goes up to Alpe Logone. The symbol is a No. 3 crossed flag, always in the colors red, white and red.
It begins upstream from the Menaggio Refuge and runs east to west along the valley, skirting the slopes of the summit peaks. This route is not marked with specific symbols, but is clearly recognizable along the ridges.
