In the past, the Sanagra Valley was a place rich in life and activity: animals were raised here, iron, clay, and silk were worked, and flour was produced thanks to the power of the stream.
Today, thanks to the work of local governments and associations, Some mountain pastures have been recovered and come back to life during the summer, keeping alive the tradition of transhumance, or the seasonal ascent of livestock to higher altitudes.
The valley's mountain pastures belong to the municipalities of Grandola ed Uniti, Plesio and Menaggio, and represent a valuable link between past and present, nature and culture.
Many of the alpine pastures today host recreational and community facilities: in particular, Alpe Livea, Poltrini di Livea, Poltrini d'Erba, and Alpe Varò are used for festivals, meetings, and local celebrations, fostering cultural and social enjoyment of the area.
