Description

The adjustable hacksaw was used to cut iron or wood. The blacksmith would adjust the length of the frame according to the piece to be cut and then make the cut using the serrated blade.

Preserved specimen

instrument consisting of a U-shaped metal frame connected at both ends by a serrated blade (missing). The frame consists of two separate segments and is thus adjustable, and also comes with a wooden handle with a circular cross-section. The blade segments are attached to the frame by a folded nail near the handle and a screw with wing nut at the opposite end.
