Preserved specimen

Brass wind instrument with 3 pistons. It has a cup-shaped mouthpiece like that of the trumpet and trombone, but unlike the latter, which have it almost entirely cylindrical, it has conical tubing like the horn, terminating in a rather wide bell. Its sound is therefore intermediate between that of the trumpet and trombone ( of which it is less incisive) and that of the horn ( of which it is more powerful and full-bodied).
