Description

The tool was used to protect the horse's hoof. It is applied while still warm to the hoof sole to take an impression, then shaped while hot and fastened with square nails in the stable.

Preserved specimen

The iron, with a typical open ellipse shape, has a front reinforcement created to further protect the equine's hoof. Square-shaped fastening holes are present on the surface.
