The planer was used in the carpenter's workshop to plane, thin and smooth pieces of wood in carpentry work. The tool, held in one hand, was slid along the wooden surface and pushed forward with a firm motion. This allowed superfluous parts of the wood to be removed, making the surface smooth and even. The planer was essential for finishing the wood and preparing it for the next stages of the work, ensuring precision and quality in the workmanship.
