Description

The vise was used to clamp a piece of wood while it was being worked. The table on which the vise was fixed had two tops: one for working and the other for support. The metal vise, inserted on a short side of the table, allowed the wood to be clamped between two sockets by means of a sliding screw. By turning the screw, the carpenter clamped the wood firmly, allowing for precise work such as cutting and carving. The vise was an essential tool in carpentry workshops, used to secure material firmly during craft work.
