Description

The bass drum is a percussion musical instrument used primarily in Grandola and Uniti band performances. It has a large leather snare drum bordered by a strip of wood and enclosed between metal bands. This instrument produces a higher-pitched, duller sound than the drum, while maintaining a similar function. The musician holds the bass drum over his shoulder by means of a strap and strikes it with a roller to produce the sound. It is mainly used for musical accompaniment in bands, particularly in ritual or play performances. The bass drum is made of materials such as leather, wood and metal and has a long oral tradition in the Como area, dating back to the 20th century.
