The bellows was used to feed the embers with air. Made of leather, it was widened by the handles to fill it with air, then closed again to allow the air to escape from the funnel.
The leather bellows is nailed along the edges to the two wooden parts that support it and allow it to open. The wooden part has an extension at one end that acts as a handle, and at the other end it ends with a kind of funnel that allows air to escape.
