The funnel was used to decant liquids such as wine. The spout of the funnel was inserted into the bung of the cask or the neck of the demijohn to be filled, and then the wine was poured from the chariot into the mouth of the funnel, which caused it to flow into the container below. This tool was essential for wine transverses, ensuring accurate and waste-free pouring. In the winery, the funnel was used frequently during the winemaking process to move wine between containers safely and cleanly.
