Shell elongated posteriorly, sword-shaped, weakly curved, with terminal ambos. The right and left valves, unlike mussels or clams, have different shapes (inequivalve shell).
The genus Gervilia appeared in the Triassic and became extinct in the Cretaceous. The specimen in question is well preserved; in fact, shell ornamentation and general shell morphology can be observed.
