The find, displayed in the museum's Paleontology Room, shows some polygonal fractures of limestone matrix; they appear to be filled with a blackish-colored sediment.
The rock in question may have paleoenvironmental value with regard to the Riva di Solto Argillite fauna discovered at the Paullo Mountains and preserved at the Sanagra Valley Ethnographic Natural History Museum.
The presence of polygonal traces could indicate cyclical episodes of seabed desiccation and subsequent sea level lowering; some targeted research should be conducted that could shed light on the nature of the find and the possible correctness of this paleoenvironmental reconstruction.
