Description

The tool for separating the finest from the coarsest part of a substance was used during sieving, a common operation in the home. Having poured the substance to be screened into the sieve, it was taken in the hand and imparted a bilateral swing. This motion allowed the finer elements to pass through the holes in the lattice, which fell and collected below. Thus, due to the precision of the process, an effective separation between the different parts of the substance was achieved, leaving the coarser ones in the sieve and allowing the finer ones to drop down.
