The lacmel

Lacmel is a traditional Naggio dessert made with whipped cream and boiled chestnuts, prepared in winter with the participation of the entire village. A simple and beloved dish, linked to gestures and tools of peasant life in the past.

Popular with both children and adults, it is a very simple dish made with cream and chestnuts.

The dish is also linked to a tradition in the village of Naggio: some inhabitants who owned a few cows used to prepare the lacmel In the winter period.
On this occasion the whole village was involved, and the inhabitants bought it and consumed it with boiled chestnuts.
In the past, cream was whipped with a specific tool, similar to a whisk but made of wood, called a scuin.
Because of the need to have cold cream to be whipped, this was often cooled directly by dipping the container in snow.
