Journey into Nature: The Dioramas of the Sanagra Valley

The Museum houses three dioramas that faithfully reproduce the habitats of the fauna of the Sanagra Valley. These reconstructions, created by the "History Nature and Life" Association with experts in the field, realistically illustrate the natural environment and the location of animals.

Creating a diorama takes months of work and includes such steps as field study, collecting and storing materials, setting up the display case, building the natural elements, introducing animals and painting the backgrounds.

Lower Valley Diorama

The diorama reconstructs the environment of the Sanagra Valley in an altitudinal range between 200 and 800 m (Mountain-hill belt). The background reproduces the habitat and landscape surrounding the locality "mills" (Molino Spinelli), with the characteristic bridge leading to the well-known "Sass Corbee."At the edge of the Sanagra stream, amidst marsh reed culms and tangled brambles, numerous animals hide; we recall: grey heron, dipper, kingfisher, blackbird, fox and kestrel.

Middle Valley Diorama

The diorama reconstructs a beech undergrowth of Alpe di Logone (Sanagra Valley) during a late autumn afternoon.
The habitat is located in the middle valley, at the mountain range between 1000 and 1400 m, dominated entirely by beech.

Inside are characteristic plant species, such as aquiline fern, ivy and stump fern. In the background, the rugged ramparts of Mt. Grona can be seen in the distance.
A rotting log at the edge of a rocky ravine provides shelter for numerous animals, including: deer, woodcock, badger, beech marten, tawny owl, hare, magpie, adder, salamander, finch, jay, redwing, hornbill, green woodpecker, squirrel, hazelnut.

Upper Valley Diorama

Diorama - Val Sanagra Museum

It faithfully reconstructs the species characteristic of the summit portions of Alpe Ballarona (Sanagra Valley), in an altitudinal range of 1600 to 2100 m (Subalpine Belt).
The background opens the view to the valley's wide catchment area on a beautiful day in early spring.

The environment is varied by the presence of rocky crags interspersed with woodland spikenard or cinnamon grasslands, partially colonized by rhododendron, dwarf juniper and mountain pine bushes. Recall the animals present: chamois, white hare, partridge, marmot and black grouse.
