Description

The hammer was used by carpenters to pound nails into wood. It was gripped firmly with one hand, and with the other, firm blows were made on the head of the nail to drive it into the wood. If necessary, the hammer was also used to pull the nails out, using the back of the head, which had a special slot to grab the nail and pull it out.
