Neuropteris is a seed-producing pteridosperm; the plant, now extinct, has been reconstructed on the basis of the Carboniferous fossil record. It is a fairly common bituminous coal fossil with Alethopteris and similar ferns, particularly in the Carboniferous of Pennsylvanian. Fossil specimens very similar to those found in Val Sanagra come from the famous Mazon Creekin Illinois deposit.
The find shows part of a fin still articulated.
