La Naggio Philharmonic Society was a lively musical ensemble that enlivened the country's festivities. Led by passionate masters such as Gabriele Balbiani and Giuseppe Tentardini, the band was a landmark for the community, bringing together young and old, often migrating for work, who returned to Naggio bringing their music with them.
Since it has not been possible to find recorded documentation on the "date of birth "of this musical ensemble, reference is made to the rumors handed down.
Verisimilarly band activity could be traced back to around the last quarter of the nineteenth century, he was its director "èl Gabriel" (Gabriele Balbiani), this master was succeeded in the early 1930s by "isl Pine of tat" (Joseph Tentardini) "isl Pine", flanked by the "Fonzi" (Alfonso Maurelli). The latter, with sure passion followed the members during the "master's" absences.
Here we recall an anecdote that proves the "musicality" of the Fonzi.
Carrying out his work in Switzerland as a superintendent of maintenance work on the Gotthard railway line, Ourselves, having ascertained that the work could be tested, sealed the tracks with a treble clef.
In Naggio, at the premises of the "circle" was active the school of music attended by band members. The ensemble consisted of about 20 elements that entertained the Naggina population on religious or festive occasions.
Young and old, all employed in the construction business, lived for most of the year in the city or abroad, but as soon as they were free from their commitments they returned to Naggio.
The warming notes of the instruments announced their presence in the quarters. in that of the "Matelin" a young man, just starting out, with his piccolo extended the timbre beyond the "third octave."
Evidently these high notes disturbed the fine hearing of the "Fonsi" who good-naturedly reprimanded the bandleader.
Other "types of notes" were. the Pēpp de the Julia (Giossi Giuseppe), who although hemmed in by a serious accident at work, was always present with his cornet.
Or, also, el Tēi (Matteo Barelli) bass player. Who with other Naggini were part of the Faido (Canton Ticino) band.
The Naggino music corps remained active until the outbreak of the World War.
