The name of Grona derives from Mount Crocione, which overlooks the Sanagra Valley and is located just in front of the hamlet, the only one in the village located beyond the state road.
Its location on the slopes of the mountain makes it somewhat more isolated, with different characteristics than the other hamlets. The houses, mostly rural in style, were initially seasonal settlements that later became permanent.
At one time, the main activity was the production of coal, which was highly valued due to the surrounding forests. The coal was sold in Menaggio and distributed throughout the Lake Como area. While the men engaged in this activity, the women took care of household chores.
Among the main attractions are the Church of St. Gotthard and the Holy Trinity Church.
