The pine marten is a carnivorous mammal in the family Mustelidae, with a slender, jointed body that measures between 35 and 55 cm in length, with a tail ranging from 25 to 30 cm. The weight of an adult is about 0.8 to 1.2 kg. Its fur is thick, soft and lustrous, yellowish-brown or dark brown on the back, with lighter shades on the muzzle, forehead and cheeks, while a yellowish tinge prevails on the flanks and belly, with dark brown shades on the legs. The throat and chinstrap are generally egg yolk yellow or, less frequently, light yellow.
Unlike the marten, the marten does not have a throat spot that extends downward, but the spot remains confined to the neck area. The marten's snout is elongated and its ears are rounded. Its legs are sturdy and have strong claws, features that make it an excellent climber.
The marten is a solitary animal, with predominantly nocturnal habits. During the day it takes refuge in vegetation, preferring the canopy of trees, where it finds shelter in natural cavities or hollowed out by other animals. Very agile, it is capable of moving quickly between trees, even making long jumps.
Taxidermied specimen without mount; good condition. It is displayed in a display case set in the museum's Eco-Fauna Room.
