Description
The Golden Oriole is a bird characterized by obvious sexual dimorphism. The male has vibrant yellow-black plumage, while the more camouflaged female has yellow-green hues with gray streaks on the belly. This bird is about 22 cm long and weighs 70 grams. The oriole is widely distributed in Europe, Asia and Africa, and is found in almost all of Italy except Sardinia.
It prefers deciduous forest habitats at low altitudes, generally below 1,800 meters above sea level, but can also be encountered in urban areas. Its nesting season is from May to June. The nest, built in the branches of a tree, is easily recognized by its suspended, hammock-like structure anchored to the fork of a branch.
