Description

La Owl is a small bird of prey belonging to the Strigidae family. Ranging in length from 21 to 23 cm and with a wingspan of about 50 cm, it is one of the most common owls in Europe, and is easily recognized by its distinctive features.

The plumage of the owl is mostly gray or brown with white spots on the head, breast and back, and the face is almost completely white with a darker area around the eyes, which appear large and yellow. These prominent eyes, another distinctive feature, give the owl a lively and curious expression.

The owl's habitat includes open areas such as fields, pastures, and farmland, but it can also adapt to inhabited areas, especially if there are old buildings or trees in which to nest. The owl is a nocturnal raptor that hunts mainly insects, small mammals, and sometimes other birds, using its excellent sense of hearing and sight to locate prey during the evening hours.

The owl's song is a typical "hu-hu," similar to that of many other strigid species, but it can also be a series of whistles or other communicative sounds. It is a migratory species in some regions while sedentary in others, and its geographic distribution ranges from southern Europe to parts of Asia and northern Africa.

It often nests in tree cavities, abandoned buildings or other man-made structures, and its diet varies according to the availability of prey in its environment. The owl is a relatively common raptor species that is unfortunately threatened in some areas due to habitat loss, agricultural intensification, and the use of pesticides that reduce food sources.
Overall, the owl Athene noctua is a symbol of wisdom in popular culture and is noted for its charming behavior and adaptability.
