Description

The Pebble Thrush is a medium-sized bird belonging to the turdidae family, with a length of about 22-23 cm. It has a characteristic plumage that makes it easily recognizable: the upper parts are grayish-brown, while the lower parts are off-white with a highly visible red-orange patch on the breast and flanks, which is one of its distinguishing features. The head is brown with a light eye ring and a white chin strap. The beak is thin and dark, while the legs are orange-brown.
The redwing is a migrant that nests in northern regions of Europe, including areas of Scandinavia and Arctic regions. During the winter, it moves southward, migrating in large groups to low-mountain and open areas of Mediterranean regions, where it feeds mainly on fruits, berries and insects.
It is a bird that prefers woodland environments, but can also be found in gardens, parks and agricultural lands. The redwing is known for its melodious song and sociable nature, often observed in large groups during the migration period. Its diet consists mainly of berries from wild plants, but it also does not disdain insects and small invertebrates.
