Lo Strillozzo is a bird in the family Emberizidae that is small to medium in size, reaching about 20 cm in length. The plumage has a rather variegated coloration, with shades of brown, gray and white, which allows it to blend in well among tall grass and cultivated land. The head is brown with a slight black streak, while the lower part of the body is lighter, tending to white or yellowish. The distinctive feature of this bird is its voice, which emits loud, ringing sounds, hence the common name "strillozzo."
Its ideal habitat includes farmland, pastures and open areas with low vegetation, where it can easily feed on seeds and insects. The corn bunting is a common species in the countryside and rural areas of Europe and Asia, where it nests in spring and summer, building its nest on the ground among grass or in cultivated land.
Its diet is mainly granivorous, but also includes some insects, especially during the summer season.
During the breeding season, the male is known for his territorial behavior, singing to defend his space, while the female is in charge of nest building and caring for her offspring.
The specimen in question is taxidermied with the wings closed on a rigid wooden stand. Good state of preservation.
