The Great Tit is a medium-sized passerine bird, varying in length between 12 and 15 cm, and a wingspan that can slightly exceed 20 cm. Its plumage is characterized by a greenish dorsal, with a bluish-gray tail and wings. The head and throat are glossy black, while the cheeks are white. The breast is yellow and has a black line from the throat to the abdomen, with the black band being slightly wider in males than in females. The titmouse is a very lively and territorial bird, known for its aggressiveness toward fellow birds and other bird species of similar size. Despite its energetic nature, it becomes easily confidant with humans, to the point of accepting food offered directly with its hands. This social behavior makes it a common species in gardens and urban areas.
Taxidermied specimen with wings closed on rigid wooden support (trunk).
