Description

The Alpine Chough is a bird belonging to the Corvidae family, known for its adaptability to mountain environments. It is commonly found in the Alps, the Apennines, the mountains of Spain, and parts of Asia. This chough is characterized by glossy black plumage with green and blue highlights and a deep yellow bill, which distinguishes it from other corvids. Its size is relatively small for a crow, but its shape is very similar, with a long, slightly rounded tail.
The alpine chough lives in mountain habitats, preferring rocky areas at higher elevations, but it is not uncommon to find it in lower areas during winter. It is an intelligent and social bird, living in family groups or colonies. It feeds on a varied diet that includes insects, small vertebrates, seeds and sometimes food scraps, showing remarkable adaptability to harsh living conditions.
Behaviorally, the alpine chough is known for its flight habits, characterized by graceful, spiral flight, which allows it to take advantage of thermal currents in the mountains. In addition, like other corvids, it has remarkable intelligence, enabling it to solve complex problems, such as opening containers to access food.
