Description

The Collared Blackbird is a species of blackbird easily recognized by its distinctive white collar that extends from the upper part of the breast to the back. This bird is about 25-28 cm in length, with plumage varying between black and dark gray in the upper body areas, while the belly is generally lighter in color, whitish or grayish.
The main feature of this blackbird is the white collar surrounding the base of the neck, just below the head, from which it gets its name. The beak is yellow-orange, while the legs are light brown. The male generally has a more vibrant and contrasting coloration, while the female tends to be more discreet, with more muted colors and a grayer hue in its plumage.
The collared blackbird is a species found mainly in Europe, particularly in mountainous areas and open woodlands. It is a bird that prefers forest and agricultural habitats, but can also adapt to mountainous areas. Its diet is omnivorous and includes insects, fruits and berries. During the breeding season, the male emits a melodious song, similar to that of the common blackbird, although with a harsher timbre.
The collared blackbird is a species that also exhibits some geographical variability. In some areas, the coloration of the collar and other body parts may vary slightly, depending on the habitat in which it lives.
