The Light Blue is a small passerine bird known for its conspicuous sexual dimorphism, particularly evident in the blue spot that characterizes the underside of the chin and chest of males, making them easily recognizable compared to females, which have less bright or absent coloration in that area. It measures about 14 cm in length and weighs around 20 grams.
The belly and flanks are yellowish, tending to havana, while the back and wings are brown. The tail rectrices are very distinctive: the tips are black, the upper lateral parts are red, and the middle parts, together with the rump, are brown. This color scheme makes the Pettizzurro easily identifiable even in flight.
It is a small, agile bird, particularly prized for its beauty and the vibrant colors of the male during the breeding season.
Taxidermied specimen with wings closed on rigid wooden support (trunk); good condition.
